Quick start: set up your Ledger in 6 minutes
- Unbox and connect. Remove your Ledger device from its packaging and connect it to your computer or phone using the supplied cable. You will be prompted to choose a PIN — pick something memorable but not obvious.
- Write down your recovery phrase. A 24-word recovery phrase is generated during setup. Write it on the provided recovery sheet and keep it offline. This phrase is your ultimate backup — never share it and never store it digitally.
- Install Ledger Live. Download the Ledger Live app (desktop or mobile). Ledger Live will guide you through adding accounts and installing app support for the blockchains you use.
- Add your crypto accounts. Open Ledger Live, choose the crypto assets you want to manage, and the app will create accounts that link to your device — no private keys ever leave the device.
- Receive and verify. Receive a small test transaction to verify your address and practice confirming operations using the buttons on your hardware device.
- Explore features. Use Ledger Live to explore staking, swap integrations, NFT management and portfolio analytics — all protected by your Ledger device.
Security best practices
- Never share your 24 words. Ledger will never ask for your recovery phrase. If someone asks for it, it's a scam.
- Keep your recovery sheet offline. Store it in a safe place — consider multiple secure locations for redundancy.
- Always verify transactions on the device. Confirm the amount and recipient on your Ledger screen before approving.
- Buy devices only from trusted sources. Purchase directly from Ledger or an authorized reseller to avoid tampered or counterfeit devices.

What if I lose my Ledger device?
If your device is lost or damaged, you can restore your accounts on a new Ledger (or compatible hardware wallet) using your 24-word recovery phrase. That is why safely storing the recovery phrase is critical.
Can Ledger access my funds?
